Clearwater teachers remembered at celebration of life

Residents of Clearwater, B.C., gathered Saturday to mourn a couple killed in a car accident last weekend.

Teachers and high school sweethearts Courtney and Skye Buck, both 30, died Sunday after their car skidded off Highway 5 into the Thompson River. Courtney was pregnant with their first child.

At a celebration of life, longtime friend and colleague Alan Stel remembered the pair.

"I've been very fortunate to know them,” he said. “They in fact were a fairytale couple in every sense of the word. At the risk of sounding cliché, there's no better way to describe them. They were a magical couple.”

The Bucks taught at Clearwater Secondary School and at Raft River Elementary School.

Courtney Buck’s body was found on Friday about 400 metres from where the car entered the water.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says the body was discovered by two members of the Wells Grey Search and Rescue team who were on the water in kayaks.

“Once located, the two individuals contacted the Clearwater RCMP who attended at the scene,” Moskaluk said.

“It's my understanding the Buck family were in the area at the time and were immediately aware of the recovery of Courtney Buck."

Skye's body was pulled from the river earlier this week.
