Alleged daycare sex assaults lead to charges in B.C.

A Maple Ridge man has been charged with sexually assaulting several children at his wife's daycare, according RCMP in B.C.

Latif Hamad Tata, 37, was arrested last Thursday. He appeared in court on Monday and was ordered to remain in custody.

The Shining Star Daycare was operated out of the basement of the family’s home on the 20400 block of 122 Avenue in Maple Ridge, according to RCMP Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

There are several daycares in the Fraser Valley that have the same name but are not connected to the case.

Investigators spent the weekend interviewing children and their parents, and have informed the Ministry for Children and Family Development, as well as the Fraser Health Community Care Facilities licensing department about the case, said Dunlop.

"In order to further our investigation we are asking for any other victims, or witnesses, to come forward and talk to police."

The daycare is shut down for now, according to Fraser Health Authority spokeswoman Kathleen Butler

"The licensee has voluntarily closed the facility effective December 14th, until she can provide a second health and safety plan for Fraser Health, and she'll be meeting with Fraser Health folks to develop that," Butler said.
