Montreal shooting victim is 35th homicide of the year

A shooting at a café in the Montreal borough of St-Leonard on Friday left one man dead, and another seriously wounded.

Montreal police said a call came in at about 2:20 p.m. reporting a shooting at 7870 Provencher Blvd., near Highway 40.

According to police, the shooting happened inside Café Dominica-In. Both victims were shot in the head.

One of the victims, 37, was found in critical condition inside the café by officers. The man suffered cardiac arrest at the scene and was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to Bob Lamle, division chief at Urgence Santé.

The second man, 38, walked away from the café, despite his critical injuries, and was found nearby by paramedics.

Lamle said the man was conscious and alert, although he had a serious head injury. He spoke with paramedics and was transported to a hospital where he is being treated.

Police have said the suspect or suspects were masked.

"There's a perimeter established … for searches, for any suspects or anything we can find," said Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant..

Police are investigating and will be meeting with witnesses to gather more information. No suspects have been identified.

Police confirmed that the shooting was Montreal's 35th homicide of the year.
