Police believe Chilliwack, B.C., man targeted in overnight shooting

CHILLIWACK, B.C. - RCMP are investigating the shooting of a Chilliwack, B.C., man they believe was targeted but not related to any recent gang murders.

Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth says police were called by the 46-year-old man about 4:45 a.m. after he was attacked (near Ashwell Road and Wolfe Road.)

She says he was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment, but his current condition is not clear.

Officers with the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP serious crime section are attempting to determine if the incident is related to a complaint of shots being fired on Thursday.

Over the past year there have been several fatal, targeted shootings of men linked to gangs in B.C.'s Lower Mainland.

Sukh Dhak and Thomas Mantel were killed in a hail of bullets in the lobby of a Burnaby hotel in late November, not long after the Crown alleged Dhak was the mastermind behind a large-scale drug lab.
