About a dozen people were on board the Tupolev Tu-204 twin-engine plane when it made a hard landing and caught fire, shortly after 4:35 p.m. local time, Russia's emergency ministry said.
The Tu-204 has a capacity to carry 210 passengers.
Unconfirmed reports say the aircraft, belonging to Red Wings airlines, plane was coming from the Czech Republic.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known. Light snow was falling in Moscow at the time.
