187 km/h Toronto driver charged with stunt driving

A 22-year-old Toronto man has been charged with stunt driving after his Honda Civic was clocked at 187 km/h on a section of the Gardiner Expressway.

A Toronto police officer spotted the car speeding on the eastbound portion of the highway near Islington Avenue in Etobicoke at around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday.

The officer's speed measuring device ascertained the speed of the vehicle was nearly double the posted limit of 100 km/h, police said in a release.

The man was charged with one count of stunt driving while travelling 50 km/h over the speed limit and another count of speeding.

His licence has been suspended for seven days and his Civic has also been impounded for a week.
