2 injured in New Year's Day shooting

Police in Surrey, B.C., are looking for a suspect after someone opened fire on a house on New Year's Day.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Blair McColl says officers were called just before 4 a.m. PT to a home on 132nd Street near 59th Avenue, where officers found a man and a woman wounded.

"The injuries are not life-threatening,” McColl said.

“Our Serious Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and we're still taking statements and interviewing witnesses and looking for a suspect."

Meanwhile, a Mountie whose cruiser slammed into a utility pole early on New Year's Day is also expected to survive.

McColl says the officer was en route to a report of a fight when it appears he lost control of his car and crashed.
