Highway 99 reopened after train derailment near Whistler

A single lane of B.C.'s Highway 99 between Whistler and Pemberton has reopened to alternating traffic after a train derailment closed the route on Thursday afternoon.

One vehicle reportedly received minor damage after three empty rail cars fell from a bridge onto the highway, but there were no injuries or spills reported. The incident occurred about eight kilometres south of Pemberton early Thursday afternoon.

Police say both lanes will not be reopened until heavy equipment is brought in to clear the wreckage on Friday.
