Distracted Driver Charged In North Van Accident

Driver Distracted By iPod Hits Senior

A driver who was distracted by changing music on her iPod has been charged in an accident that left a 70-year-old pedestrian with serious injuries in North Vancouver.

The senior was returning home from the gym and walking on the sidewalk of Mount Seymour Parkway and Emerson Way when he was struck by the 19-year-old driver's Honda Civic on Thursday afternoon, said RCMP.

The senior suffered a broken leg, broken ribs and lacerations to his head.

The female driver from North Vancouver has been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act with driving with undue care and attention and driving while using an electronic device.

"The consequences of a moment’s lapse in judgment can literally make the difference of life and death for someone. It’s not worth the risk," said RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong in a news release Friday.
