'Neuter scooter' takes cats to Prince Edward Island hospital to be fixed

CHARLOTTETOWN - A van dubbed the "neuter scooter" is carrying 35 New Brunswick cats to the University of Prince Edward Island's veterinary college today.

The felines from the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue League will be spayed and neutered by veterinary students in Charlottetown at a low cost as part of a new program.

The shelter says the goal of Operation Cat Nip is to help minimize Saint John's stray cat problem while students gain clinical experience.

The shelter says cats who are fixed are adopted faster and have a lower risk of getting sick.
