Oprah In Calgary: Excitement Builds For Event After Edmonton Success

With a 'Good nite Edmonton' Oprah Winfrey closed her Edmonton chapter Monday night, prompting excitement and anticipation to migrate south to Calgary for her live engagement there on Tuesday night.

The iconic U.S. television host had the sold-out Northlands Colisseum laughing and gasping Tuesday night, as she switched hats between motivational speaker and stand-up comic at the Alberta capital's edition of 'An Evening with Oprah.'

And the buzz in Calgary, where the event at the Saddledome sold out in one day, is palpable.

Social media was abuzz with ecstatic fans, while Calgary businesses are enjoying a boost in traffic thanks to the event.

Olives Restaurant general manager Warren Flemming told the Calgary Herald that Tuesday at the establishment, which is located in the vicinity of the Saddledome, has been booked solid since the beginning of the month.

“I can’t take on anymore people between the hours of four and six o’clock. It’s jam-packed,” said Flemming of the establishment which seats approximately 150 but that normally only sees 40 to 50 patrons on a regular Tuesday.
