The bottling building and majority of the stock at the Granite Creek Estate winery were destroyed in the blaze.
“This is pretty tough going,” said owner Gary Kennedy. “My head is still not working 100 per cent clear, if you know what I mean. I'm in a bit of a fog.”
Kennedy and his wife Heather lost almost all of their stock, including wine aging in barrels for as long as five years.
"We've gotten to be well known for our higher end reds, and they’re not here now,” he said. “If you want those again, you're looking at a five-year period, not a one- or two-year period."
Kennedy says they’re considering rebuilding the winery and letting their children run it, but adds he and his wife would miss the business they’ve been running the last 10 years.
"The customers are our friends, and the events that we did — the weddings, the birthdays and reunions."
The family has a few dozen bottles left to sell in their wine shop.
