Quebec provincial police have resumed the search for a 38-year-old man missing since yesterday afternoon, when he set out on snowmobile from his home in Fermont, in northeastern Quebec near the Labrador border.
Police spokeswoman Martine Isabelle said the man was just out for a recreational ride and was expected home to pick up some members of his family at around 4:30 p.m. but failed to show up.
"A member of the family called the police officers — la Sûreté Du Québec from Fermont — so the search began very fast with police officers and some [volunteer] snowmobilers," Isabelle said.
She said the search continued until about 1 a.m. Friday and resumed at dawn.
The temperature dipped to minus 21 yesterday or about minus 35 with the wind chill factor.
