Woman Sexually Assaulted Overnight In Vancouver

UPDATE - Feb. 6, 2013: Dustin Burwood, 26, of Vancouver has been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm in this case, said Vancouver police.

A woman was sexually assaulted in downtown Vancouver early Wednesday morning, police say.

A 25-year-old Vancouver woman was waiting for a bus at in the 600 block of Smithe Street at about 3 a.m. when she was grabbed by a man and sexually assaulted, said police spokesman Sgt. Randy Fincham.

Fincham said the woman’s screams were heard by two people who came to her aid, scaring her attacker off. He was last seen running north on Granville Street.

The woman was taken to hospital by paramedics for injuries to her face, back and leg.

The suspect was described as white, 25 to 30 years old, five feet, 10 inches tall, with a medium build. Police believe the man suffered scratches to the side of his face and nose during the attack, Fincham said.
