UPDATE (Feb. 1, 2013): One stabbing victim remains in critical condition in hospital, four remain in hospital and two have been released after a stabbing in Vancouver's West End, the Vancouver police said in a news release.

Multiple people have been sent to hospital with unidentified injuries after being allegedly stabbed in a Vancouver apartment building in the city's West End neighbourhood.

Police received a call about the incident around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday evening, said Sgt. Randy Fincham in a news release.

When police arrived on scene at the building on the 1200 block of Barclay St., a total of seven people were found with injuries. Six were transported to hospital.

A suspect was arrested a short distance away from the building and is facing charges.

Fincham called the random stabbings a "very vicious, very serious attack."

"It doesn't appear it stemmed from an altercation inside a suite or anywhere else in the building," the Vancouver Sun reported him saying.

The motive for the attack is not yet known. The investigation remains ongoing.
