Are you constantly hearing about the British TV drama "Downton Abbey"? Are all your friends talking about it and you have no idea what they're referring to? Well, it's not too late to get on board.

In the U.S., the series airs on PBS, and is currently in the middle of the third season -- which is what's fueling the buzz online as the show ramps up. In Canada, you can catch "Downton Abbey" on VisionTV on Wednesday evenings at 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST.

In its native United Kingdom, Season 3 of "Downton" is long finished. Currently shooting its fourth season, the show has an approximate return-to-air date of January 2014 on PBS.

The next episode to air on VisionTV (Wednesday, February 13) is Season 1, Episode 7, so it's nearing the end of the first season. If you're a purist (and good for you if you are!) and want to watch all the episodes in order from the beginning, the DVDs for Seasons 1-3 are available on Amazon.

Set in the early 1900s, "Downton Abbey" has become a runaway hit. The fictional series, created by Julian Fellowes, focuses on the lives of the wealthy aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. Numerous historical events take place over the course of the show, and it provides us a first-hand account of both classes' reactions. So far, the show has dealt with the sinking of the Titanic and World War I, and gives ongoing commentary on issues like suffrage and the necessity of monarchy.

Canada plays a role in the series too: in Season 2, an old family friend returns to Downton with a bizarre Canadian alter-ego and in Season 3, stock in the Canadian railway plays a part in Lord Crawley's financial trouble.

If you like high drama taking place in the beautiful English countryside, then "Downton Abbey" is for you.
