CALGARY -- A former ringette coach broke down in tears as she denied charges of sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching with one of her players.
Kelsea Joy Hepburn, 24, testified Wednesday that she did everything she could to keep her distance from the 13-year-old girl who she described as a mixed-up child who would not leave her alone.
Hepburn admitted that the teen's mother found her and the girl with their pants down in the girl's home but said nothing happened.
She said she never wanted to get into a situation like that and that she made a mistake.
The girl, who is now 15, took the stand on Monday and told court she never wants anything to do with Hepburn again.
The girl's mother testified Tuesday that her daughter was going through a tough time and had confided in the coach.
She said she herself had recently been diagnosed with cancer and her daughter was also grieving the death of her grandmother.
The mom said the girl went to the coach in a moment of weakness.
