Three Alberta construction workers in hospital following house explosion

FORT SASKATCHEWAN, Alta. - Three construction workers are in hospital following a gas explosion at a home northeast of Edmonton.

A news release from the City of Fort Saskatchewan says the three were working on a single-family home in the Southpointe neighbourhood.

There is no word on the extent of their injuries.

Cam Heke with STARS air ambulance says at least one patient was to be transferred to an Edmonton hospital.

Deputy Fire Chief Bill Heesing says the injured workers were out of the house by the time fire crews arrived.

Investigators are at the scene trying to determine the cause of the blast, which they believe happened in the basement.
