Spring Trends 2013: Cocktail Or Evening Shorts For A Night Out

How To Wear Shorts For A Night Out

What's trending right now? The cocktail short (sometimes referred to as the evening short). Though they aren't new, they are growing in popularity once again.

Now, ordinarily when you think of shorts you probably think of summer comfort, laying beside the pool, and maybe taking a trip down the block for a late night ice cream cone. Let me make one thing very clear: these cocktail shorts are not to be confused with your faded cutoffs.

Cocktail shorts are dressy, tailored numbers that we've seen on the runway and the red carpet. Taking all the elegance of a skirt and the comfort of your favorite summer go-to, you might want to add this versatile piece to your wardrobe.

These shorts can be worn in an almost endless variety of ways, and come in just as many patterns and fabrics (we're particularly fond of leather). Keeping the fit loose and making sure they hit around mid-thigh will keep them from looking too casual. Try pairing them with a blazer or a silk blouse for work or dinner, and a leather jacket, heeled booties and some statement jewellery for a night out. You can wear them in the colder months over a pair of textured stockings, and with bare legs when the temperatures permit.
