Orcas In Tofino Chase Surfers Out Of Ocean (VIDEO)

WATCH: Orcas Chase B.C. Surfers!

Surfers near Tofino, B.C., were sent running for dry land earlier this week when a pod of orcas got a little too close for comfort

Tofino videographer Adam Chilton captured the scene last Saturday and posted the video to YouTube Monday. A group of surfers were navigating rough waters when a group of killer whales began circling the waters near the shore.

The surfers promptly headed for the beach and watched the whales swim away through strong waves.

But it's difficult to tell what the orcas are actually chasing in the video. At one point, you see surfers riding the waves and walking up to the beach, while at another you see what looks like a group of seals bouncing in and out of the waves.

YouTube commenter "DiscoverSooke" noted that the whales in this video are likely "transient orcas," which are known for feeding on mammals such as seals and porpoises, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

They can be distinguished from "southern resident orcas," which are known to feed on fish.
