The yellowed pages of about 400 books at a Southwestern Ontario library didn't come naturally.

Unless you count nature's call -- which has reportedly resulted in some $8,000 in damages to books at the Leamington Public Library near Windsor.

Police are on the lookout for the repeat offender. In addition, the library has installed $5,000 worth of camera equipment in an effort to catch the peeing bandit.

Destroying the affected books -- about 400 volumes, some costing as much as $100 each -- has been a number one priority for library staff.

"As soon as they’ve been touched with a biohazard ... we would not circulate them to the public, they’re destroyed,” chief librarian Janet Woodbridge told The Toronto Star.

“You can’t recover books.”

According to the CBC, staff are now patrolling the library every 15 minutes, hoping to catch the person responsible for at least four urine attacks in the last three weeks.

“That is disgusting,” regular patron Barb Newman told The Windsor Star. “My heart sank when I saw all the books missing."

As for the offender's motives, there doesn't appear to be a specific genre being targeted, but the books under fire are located in parts of the library not often frequented.

"They don't appear to be making any editorial comment," Woodbridge told the CBC.
