Calgary Zoo Gorillas Caught In Kitchen

The Calgary Zoo had to deal with some monkey business Friday morning, when several (perhaps hungry?) gorillas managed to make their way into a kitchen.

According to a press release from the zoo, a number of gorillas were found in a kitchen space, which is usually off limits to the animals, shortly after 9 a.m. The kitchen is also designed to be a secondary gorilla holding area, but in this case only members of the staff should have had access to the facility.

Emergency response teams arrived on scene withing minutes, said the zoo, and began to secure the perimeter to the Rainforest Building while a gorilla keeper cornered one remaining gorilla in the kitchen.

One keeper suffered minor injuries in the incident and is being treated.

At no point was the public at risk, nor did any gorillas enter a non-secure area, the zoo confirmed. Crews are investigating how the gorillas got into the kitchen.
