When we set about to determine Calgary city council aldermen making the best use of Twitter, we were pleasantly surprised. Not only are the majority of council using Twitter, but those tweeting are doing a pretty good job.
For the most part, we saw the aldermen sharing information with their followers, responding to questions and engaging in debate. Aldermen who gave a glimpse of who they are outside their aldermanic roles - with photo updates, restaurant recommendations and funny jokes or banter - received extra points.
Everyone uses Twitter in a different way and has varying levels of engagement. That in mind, we've included a few suggestions for several alderman on how they can spruce up their feeds to reach more people and make their social media experience more personal and fun.
We were a bit disappointed to see several aldermen have yet to jump on the Twitter train; we're looking at you Dale Hodges, Jim Stevenson, Gord Lowe, Ray Jones and Andre Chabot. But hopefully you'll change your tune and come over to Twitter soon. In our opinion, it's a great way to connect with the people and organizations in your ward. Take some tips from your colleagues listed below.
Without further ado, here are the aldermen rocking our Twitter feeds.
