Seeing the Son of God in a floorboard knot is unexpected, but Jay Wells’ reaction was right on the mark: “’Oh my God, it’s Jesus!’”
He first discovered the image inside his Halifax salon last June, according to a recent Chronicle Herald article.
“It was underneath our esthetician table where treatments like manicures and pedicures and waxing take place,” he told CBC. "A funny place to find Jesus looking back at you."
While it’s unusual to see Jesus in a salon, others have also seen the figure in shower mould, melted candle wax, and even a Walmart receipt.
Northwestern University researchers have an explanation for why some people see Jesus in unusual places; the human brain is equipped to look for meaning in abstract images. They asked 10 volunteers to view ‘squiggles’ and assess their meaningfulness, and found that when volunteers viewed the images a second time they had already classified them.
Wells has seen familiar figures in other places besides the floorboards, the Herald reported, and he takes the Jesus image “with a grain of salt.” But he maintains people who have viewed the floor also say it looks like Jesus.
Do you see the resemblance?
