Vanderhoof Stunting Crash To Be Reviewed By Police Watchdog

VANDERHOOF, B.C. - B.C.'s independent police watchdog has deployed investigators to Vanderhoof after a car was observed stunting in a parking lot before it crashed.

The Independent Investigations Office says it was notified just before 7 a.m. this morning that three people were taken to hospital in northern B.C., including two with serious injuries.

The office says the RCMP told it that a Mountie had not pursued the car after it left the lot, but came across it a short distance away where it had struck a sign post.

The RCMP say the officer spoke briefly to the driver, who fled as soon as the officer went to check on the three passengers.

Six investigators, including a forensic specialist, will meet today with the RCMP liaison officer to begin conducting their work.

The office is called in to investigate situations where police are involved in incidents where someone is seriously injured or dies.
