Pregnant Woman Attacked In SkyTrain Station; Police Seek Man In Wheelchair

Transit police in Greater Vancouver are looking for a man in a wheelchair accused of attacking a pregnant woman in an elevator at the Metrotown SkyTrain station.

On Feb. 20 around 4 p.m., two women pushing their babies in strollers entered the elevator on the station's platform level, said a Monday news release. A man in an electric wheelchair allegedly pushed his way into the elevator and ran over the feet of one of the women who was seven months pregnant.

An argument allegedly followed, with the woman saying she was going to call the police. She then took a photo of the suspect with her phone.

As the elevator neared street level, the argument continued resulting in slaps and punches being exchanged, said Transit Police. The man allegedly punched the woman several times in the face, head and stomach before leaving the scene.

The woman, who suffered cuts, bruises and scratches to her face, hands and leg, was treated in hospital and released later that evening, said police.

The suspect is described as an aboriginal man, about 25 to 35 years old, with black hair, brown eyes, moustache and goatee and wearing glasses.
