Nicole Brochu, Brett Lietz Dead: Surrey Colebrook Road Victims Identified

Two roommates have been identified as the man and woman found dead along Surrey's isolated Colebrook Road, which has come to be a dumping ground for bodies.

Police on a patrol of the area found the bodies of Brett Sheldon Lietz, 54, and Nicole Madelynn Brochu, 40, around 2 a.m. on Wednesday.

The pair appear to have been shot, but an autopsy in the next few days will confirm that, said Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team in a Thursday news release.

Lietz does not have a criminal record, while Brochu has convictions dating from 1989 to 2003, said Pound. The motive for their killings is still unknown, she added.

Investigators said it's likely they were not only dumped in the area, but also shot there.

In the past seven weeks, two other bodies have been found on Colebrook Road. The RCMP found Amritpal Saran's burned body on Feb. 24 and the body of Jaskaran Singh Sandhu on Jan. 28.

"It’s very early to say conclusively that all of the four victims found at this location are unrelated to each other. However, the flow of evidence to date supports the theory that they are not connected and only one of the victims had gang connections," said Pound on Thursday.

Surrey has had eight homicides since the beginning of 2013 — more than double the rate of neighbouring Vancouver.
