Four suspects charged after man kidnapped in central Alberta

SYLVAN LAKE, Alta. - Four men are facing more than two dozen charges between them after a man was held for ransom earlier this month in central Alberta.

RCMP say the charges include kidnapping, extortion, forcible confinement and assault with a weapon.

Mounties say officers in Sylvan Lake were notified March 4 by someone who had been contacted by a caller demanding an undisclosed amount of cash.

About 24 hours later, a man was able to escape from his captors and was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

The four accused all have scheduled court appearances this week.

One of the suspects had 21 outstanding warrants against him.
