Police lay more charges in Anthony Spencer killing

Toronto police laid additional charges today against two men accused in the killing of Anthony Spencer, an aspiring rapper shot in a Scarborough recording studio last year.

Spencer, 23, was shot inside a recording studio at 799 Brimley Rd., on Jan. 21. 2012.

Two men were charged in Spencer's death last year. Additional charges were laid Tuesday when both men appeared in a Toronto court.

- Samuel Paul, 22, already faced multiple criminal counts, including first-degree murder. He now faces the additional counts of robbery while armed with a firearm and aggravated assault.

- Chever Ashley, 22, also faced multiple criminal counts previously. He now faces additional counts of robbery while armed with a firearm, aggravated assault and first-degree murder — which was upgraded from the previous charge of accessory after the fact.

LaPrincia Palmer, 19, had turned herself in to police in October 2012. She faces charges of armed robbery and attempting to obstruct justice.

Spencer went to the recording studio the night he was killed with several other people, according to police.

A robbery took place, during which time police say Spencer was shot.

Three of Spencer's friends took him to Scarborough General Hospital, spoke with staff and helped him onto a gurney but then left.

Spencer died shortly afterward.
