Canadian Olympic trampolinists Karen Cockburn and Mathieu Turgeon are expecting their first child. Cockburn announced the news Wednesday on Twitter, including a link to the sonogram.
The baby will have an undeniable athletic pedigree. Cockburn, from Stoufville, Ont., is a three-time Olympic medallist with a silver medal in 2004 and 2008 and a bronze in 2000. Turgeon, from Pointe-Claire, Que., also won a bronze at the 2000 Sydney Games.
"Everyone believes we will have a super baby because both Mathieu and I are Olympic medallists," Cockburn said on her website. "We may have an athlete on our hands but all we are hoping for is a healthy baby. We can't wait to share all of our love with this new little life."
Cockburn said on her website that pregnancy has been challenging so far and that it's "hard to function when you are sick all the time," but added that she has feeling better since entering her second trimester.
The baby is due on Sept. 16.
