A former corrections officer is accused of smuggling steroids and a Blackberry to inmates at the Surrey Pretrial Services Centre.
Sedrick Dang has been charged with breach of trust after allegedly smuggling the items, along with a screwdriver, a phone charger and a battery between March 2011 and November 2012 into the facility, CBC News reported.
Dang is facing two counts of accepting bribes and has been ordered to give up his passport.
Dang has not worked for Corrections Canada since he was charged last month and investigators are taking the charges very seriously, RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet told News1130. Dang has been released on bail and is expected back in court next month.
This isn't the first time that a jail guard has been accused of smuggling contraband to inmates. Paul Fleming, a corrections officer at the maximum-security Kent Institution, was charged in December with drug trafficking after allegedly providing prisoners with marijuana and methamphetamine.
