Drum roll please: The most bought paint colour in the world is...yellow?

Yes, you better believe it. It may not be the most popular colour (this title goes to blue), but according to a recent survey by Dulux paint, yellow is the most sold colour around the world.

When you think "yellow" you may think of canaries, mustard or smiley faces, but as it turns out, people have a bigger problem with the name itself. The survey found people seemed to like the actual colour of yellow, as long as it was called something else.

"Paint names like buttercup, vanilla and champagne are more attractive to consumers,” Martin Tustin-Fuchs, brand director for Dulux paint said in a statement.

Part of the allure is that yellow tones are often associated with brightness, warmth and happiness. Yellows can also be energizing and uplifting — which can come in handy during those hectic nights in the kitchen or home office.

“At times, a specific shade may become fashionable or unfashionable, but yellow in general never goes out of style,” Tustin-Fuchs says.
