Maple Leafs swing deal for defenceman Ryan O'Byrne

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired big defenceman Ryan O'Byrne Wednesday just before the deadline.

The six-foot-five blue-liner was obtained for a fourth round draft pick in 2014.

O'Byrne has a goal and three assists in 34 games, with a minus-8 rating with the struggling Avalanche.

The Victoria native was originally selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2003 draft.

He's scored four goals with 33 assists and 363 penalty minutes in 300 regular season games.
