Telus CEO earned total of $11 million in 2012; took base salary in shares

VANCOUVER - Telus (TSX:T) CEO Darren Entwistle earned just over $11 million in compensation in 2012, compared with $10.1 million in 2011.

The telecom company said Entwistle took his base salary of $1.36 million in shares in 2012, the fourth year he did so, compared with a base salary of $1.36 million a year ago.

The value of Entwistle's pension was $1.21 million in 2012, slightly down from $1.44 million in 2011, according to the company's information circular.

In 2012, Entwistle earned $7.68 million in share-based compensation, $685,071 in a yearly bonus and $84,218 in other compensation.

This compared with $6.94 million in share-based compensation, a $444,503 yearly bonus and $54,835 in other compensation in 2011.

Chief financial officer Robert McFarlane, who is now retired, earned total compensation of $3.46 million in 2012 compared with $3.05 million in 2011, said the company.

The Vancouver-based provider of wireless, Internet and television and home phone services will hold its annual meeting May 9 in Montreal.
