RED DEER, Alta. - A 14-year-old boy in central Alberta has been given a deferred sentence for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl.
The boy, who was convicted last year, was handed a six-month deferred sentence, along with 18 months probation in a Red Deer court.
If he doesn't violate any of his probation conditions, his conviction can be dismissed.
If he does breach the conditions, he will be sentenced and will have a criminal record.
The assaults took place between February and April of last year.
The judge described the assaults as "opportunistic."
