Justin Trudeau won the Liberal leadership race on Sunday, taking over 80 per cent of the vote on the first ballot.
Many cheered on the newly-appointed party leader, and congratulated him on his victory, with Twitter user @j_vaniersel writing, "It's official, Liberals have a fighting chance."
However, despite his widely-anticipated win, Trudeau's new role was met with both praise and skepticism online.
Twitter user @DanTisch called Trudeau's victory speech about party unity akin to, "A bit of faux-bama," while several other users threw in a pun or two.
Referencing Trudeau's line about how, "The era of hyphenated Liberals ends right now", Tory MP Tony Clement sent his compound congratulations to, "The Chretien-Martin-Dion-Ignatieff-Trudeau Liberals for electing your new Leader!"
Is the new era of Trudeaumania upon us? We'll just have to wait until 2015.
