Blue For Boston: Runners Unite, Wear Blue And Yellow

The running community is responding to the bombings in Boston Tuesday by showing their colours in solidarity with the city and race.

The colours blue and yellow are iconic for the Boston Marathon, seen in its medals and in some of the jackets and shirts. On Monday night, a group of runners asked each other to wear blue and yellow.

"There's a movement happening for runners to unite and wear a race shirt tomorrow to honor and remember those lost today,” the hosts of runchat, a site and chat group on Twitter, said on Monday night. "Let's do it. For those without a race shirt or if you have to dress up for work, wear the Boston Marathon colors of blue and yellow."

Two bombings in Boston on Monday, near the finish line at the 4:09 mark of the race, killed three people and injured more than 140. The marathon, which was running its 117th edition in 2013, is one world's major marathons and an entry is coveted by runners in part because of its tough qualification system.

"When you head out for a run, wear a race shirt. If you can dress casually to work or have the day off, wear a race shirt.” the #RunChat page said.

Here are some of the images and tweets from those wearing blue and yellow Tuesday.
