Thief targets mother in Langley Hospital maternity ward

Langley RCMP are searching for a female after a theft from a hospital room at Langley Memorial, in the second case of a theft from a maternity ward in the Lower Mainland in recent weeks.

Police have released a surveillance photograph of a woman they would like to speak to, who was allegedly in the ward around the time of the theft.

Police received a report that two wallets and an iPad had been stolen from a new mother’s room in the maternity ward of Langley Memorial on March 30.

“They had left the room in the maternity ward for a brief period of time to be with their child,” said RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks.

“When they returned, they decided they were going to watch the hockey game and went to look for their iPad and it was gone,” Marks said.

“When they further itemized the contents of the room they noticed that both of their wallets had been stolen,” she added.

Earlier this month, a new mother discovered her wallet had been stolen from the ward at Lions Gate Hospital after she left the room to nurse her newborn.

Marks says theft from hospital rooms is not common, but she advises people to secure their items before leaving them in any public place.
