Man Shot By Police In Gunfire Exchange

An early morning police shootout and high-speed chase in west Edmonton has left one man injured, according to the Edmonton Police Service.

According to CTV Edmonton, police were called to the scene of a weapons complaint around 5:45 a.m. Thursday morning, at a townhouse near 96 Avenue and 180 Street.

Shots were exchanged at the scene, injuring one man. No officers were injured.

Police then chased a silver SUV that fled from the scene to the west edge of the city near the River Cree Casino, reports the Edmonton Journal.

When police stopped the vehicle near 215 Street and Whitemud Drive, one person in the vehicle was reportedly soaked in blood and one of the SUV's windows had been shot out.

Alberta Serious Incident Response Team have confirmed they have taken over the investigation.
