Where The Pot Party At?

This is one celebration you're likely to smell before you see it. Yes, it's 4/20 - April 20 - the day when stoners everywhere unite to hold the pot party of the year.

Vancouver 's annual smoke out takes place on the lawns in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery where organizers are expecting over 20,000 participants, News1130 reported.

Festivities begin at noon, and include two live music stages, circus performers and speeches. Just before 4 p.m., there will be a rousing rendition of "Oh Cannabis" to prepare the crowd for the 4:20 p.m. mass lighting of the joints, according to 420Vancouver.com. Those who can't make it, can join in virtually by watching the live streaming on PotTV.

The Vancouver event is generally peaceful and police presence is typically muted, with officers not there to crack down on minor offences, Vancouver Police Department spokesperson, Brian Montague told News1130.

Proponents of legalizing cannabis in B.C. are upping their rhetoric as campaigning continues for the May 14 provincial election.

Earlier this week, a survey suggested that nearly 75 per cent of B.C. adults would support a research trial to pilot a regulated market for recreational marijuana use. Forty-four per cent of survey participants admitted if a political party announced their support for a regulated marijuana market pilot it would improve their opinion of that party. Twelve per cent said it would negatively impact their view.

“Consistently, our polling results are showing the public is demanding a new approach and turning away from strategies like mandatory minimum sentences for marijuana offenses,” said Mario Canseco, vice president of Angus Reid Public Opinion to CBC News.
