EDMONTON - A man in his 20s is dead after a shooting outside an Edmonton shopping centre.

Police arrived at Londonderry Mall about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday night after receiving reports that several shots had been fired in the parking lot.

Some witnesses said they heard a number of loud bangs.

Anthony Yu said he first heard one gunshot, then about six or seven followed.

Several police cruisers were on scene and police officials said they were searching for two suspects who fled on foot.

They also said the victim was known to them and that the gang unit and the homicide unit are investigating.

The shooting was frightening for many shoppers who were just leaving the mall at closing time.

Some were forced to stay inside as police searched for the gunmen.

One man told CTV Edmonton that his wife and children were at taekwondo lessons when police instructed them to stay put.

"We have an eight-year-old boy who's a little scared because of all the police actions and not being able to leave," said the man.

"We've got multiple witnesses that we're interviewing," said acting Insp. Erik Johnson. "Our members are looking through video at the scene here."
