The UBC RCMP are on the hunt for an aboriginal male after he allegedly assaulted a female student while she was jogging in Pacific Spirit Regional Park.

The 18-year-old student was jogging near Trail 3 between 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. when she encountered a male who asked her the time. The man then grabbed her and threw her to the ground before taking off, the RCMP said in a Tuesday news release.

The student scraped her knee on the fall but she was not sexually assaulted and no weapons were seen, the RCMP noted. The motive for the assault is unknown.

The aboriginal male is described as being in his early to mid 20s, about 5'9" to 5'10" tall with a heavy build. He has medium skin tone, short black hair, brown eyes, a round face and wears round glasses.

At the time of the assault he was wearing a black t-shirt with a white circular logo and baggy blue jeans.

"The public is reminded to remain vigilant concerning their safety when out jogging or walking in any park in the Lower Mainland especially after dark," RCMP spokesman Sgt. Peter Thiessen said in a news release.

The attack comes four years after Wendy Ladner-Beaudry was killed while running in Pacific Spirit Park.

Ladner-Beaudry's family marked the fourth anniversary of her death earlier this month.
