BRULE, Alta. - A police investigation is underway after the discovery of remains in a remote area of west-central Alberta.
RCMP say the remains were found Tuesday by people riding all-terrain vehicles near the hamlet of Brule, about 300 kilometres west of Edmonton.
A number of officers have been at the scene since then, backed up by a police helicopter.
Staff Sgt. Mark Fitzgerald, an RCMP spokesman, says police are sifting the area but don't yet know if the remains are human.
Fitzgerald says because of the location they are taking all necessary steps to ensure it's thoroughly investigated.
Mounties and members of the RCMP's K Division in Edmonton were expected back at the site Friday.
