Don Cherry’s Saturday night comment regarding female reporters in male locker rooms has landed him in some hot social media water.
“I don’t believe women should be in the male dressing room,” Cherry said on "Hockey Night In Canada."
Now his “Coach’s Corner” co-host Ron MacLean is defending him.
"He’s seen the worst things," MacLean told the Toronto Sun.
"And he knows that the relationship with players, coaches, and the media is often really hostile so I knew right away his heart would be in the right place."
Cherry's comment was referencing the controversy around Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Duncan Keith, who was criticized earlier in the week after delivering what some considered a sexist post-game putdown to a female radio reporter in Vancouver.
Cherry believes the reporter — Karen Thomson of Team 1040 — shouldn't have been allowed in the Blackhawks dressing room to begin with.
Despite the support, MacLean said he knew Cherry’s comment would spark outrage on Twitter. Check out some of the reactions below.
