Gurmit Sachdeva is reportedly in shock after his wife, mother, sister and two children were killed in a car crash in Surrey last Sunday.

The Surrey businessman was waiting for his family to return from morning prayers when he heard radio reports of a fatal car crash at 176th Street and 32nd Avenue. He went out to find his family's 1994 Toyota Corolla split in half, CBC News reported.

The car was struck by a Dodge Caravan that allegedly ran a red light, killing everyone in the car upon impact, in a crash that police have called one of the worst they've ever seen, The Vancouver Sun reported.

Mourners visited Sachdeva's home on Monday. None would speak to reporters outside the home, but one told the newspaper over the phone that Sachdeva is "in shock" after the deaths.

Radio India host Gurpreet Singh told the paper that Sachdeva is "crying inconsolably and so is his father."

The driver of the Dodge Caravan is likely to face charges in the crash, RCMP Insp. Lee Chanin said at a Monday news conference, the Surrey/North Delta Leader reported.

Police are currently investigating witness reports that say the driver ran a red light.
