Aurizon stock down 12% after reporting breach at tailings pond at Quebec mine

VANCOUVER - Stock in Aurizon Mines Ltd. (TSX:ARZ) fell 12 per cent Friday, a day after the tailings dike at its Casa Berardi gold mine in Quebec suffered a breach.

Aurizon says most of the material in the tailings pond remained inside the containment area and that there had been no further discharges.

The miner said operations at Casa Berardi were not disrupted, adding that environmental authorities were no longer on site and the cleanup of the "minor discharge" was expected to be completed by later Friday.

The company shares closed down 52 cents at $3.71 on the Toronto Stock Exchange on heavy volume of more than 3.9 million shares.

Aurizon has eight properties in Quebec, including the Casa Berardi gold mine, as well as several development and exploration projects.
