PETA Dancing Condoms Calgary Protest Encourages Pet Owners To 'Fix' Pets (PHOTO, VIDEO)

CALGARY - Former TV game show host Bob Barker would be proud.

The longtime host of "The Price is Right" would end every show with a message urging people to spay or neuter their pets.

In Calgary Monday, a pair of giant, dancing condoms, one pink and the other blue, were putting on a performance along a busy downtown corridor during lunch to drive that message home.

One sign read "Condoms won't work; Fix your dog" and the other "Condoms won't work; Fix your cat."

"This is just a fun and upbeat way to remind people that for us preventing pregnancy is as easy as wearing a condom, but cats and dogs can't open the wrapper," said Emily Lavender, a spokeswoman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

"This is just a reminder that we can help prevent tens of thousands of animals that are dying in shelters across Canada and in the streets simply by spaying, neutering and adopting."

Lavender said in 2011 more than 200,000 animals were admitted to shelters and more than 70,000 were destroyed so it's important to cut down on the number of unwanted pets.

She said PETA will be spreading the message across the Prairies this week.
