Patient referrals never sent to specialists, Newfoundland health board says

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Newfoundland and Labrador's largest health board says a worker at a community health office failed to send the referrals of 31 patients to specialists for further care last month.

Eastern Health is blaming an "an administrative issue" at the office in St. Mary's.

The board says the referrals were routine and non-urgent.

President and CEO Vickie Kaminski says the physician at the office has reviewed each patient's file and concluded that no one was harmed as a result of not receiving further consultation or assessment.

Eastern Health says the patients affected have been notified.
