Fisherman's net snags body in Fraser River

A man fishing on B.C.'s Fraser River snagged a body in his net over the weekend, but before the net could be hauled in, the body slipped away.

Chilliwack RCMP say a First Nations fisherman had placed his net in the river near Chilliwack Friday and when he checked it Saturday morning he saw a partially submerged body before the remains broke free of the netting in the fast-flowing river.

RCMP say the body is small in build, about 180 pounds, wearing a black jacket with a zipper in the wrist area. The sex and ethnicity are not known at this time.

Police have already canvassed for missing persons matching the description.

They are now asking the public for information.
