Victoria police Const. Michael Russell says the items, dating back to the 17th century were dropped off anonymously last night at police headquarters.

"Our crime reduction unit focuses solely on property offenders, and they have been turning this city upside down since the theft. So we are thinking that the pressure the officers were putting out there in the community to these property thieves certainly played a part in that return," said Russell.

The stolen items include two gold and silver chalices, Canadian coins, a small communion plate and a mote spoon.

Police say even though all the items have been recovered, they will continue to look for the person who stole them.

Victoria police first received an alarm call indicating a break and enter at the church just before 10 p.m. last Saturday night. Several officers and a K9 team searched the building but did not locate any suspects.
